Here we are…
After whiling away the past few months wishing I had more opportunities to write something longer than an Instagram post for work, I finally joined Medium. “This is it,” I thought. “This is my first step to reclaiming my writing skills/passion/hobby/profession.” After a BA in history and English and an MA in history, you would think I’ve had enough writing to last me a lifetime, maybe more. But somehow, here I am 7 months after graduation and longing to write in long(er) form again. I miss… critical thinking? Textual analysis? Are those things a sane person is supposed to miss? I’ve written at least 2 monographs’ worth of reading responses, essays, and seminar papers, but for some reason I want to keep going. So here I am, on Medium, waiting for inspiration to strike so I can write the most elegant and enticing opinion piece anyone has ever read.
This page is dedicated to getting back in touch with my academic thought process. Not through true “essays,” but through long-form writing that allows me to think bigger about various topics, ideas, and questions I confront through my own reading, watching, and general consumption of daily life. I want a space to think the way I did in my graduate seminars, and until I’m back in the classroom, Medium will be that space.
